Private Sector Partnership for Development (PSPD) opens to new members in Cabo Delgado

Last June 16 in Pemba, the Private Sector Partnership for Development (PSPD) held a presentation session, aimed at bringing local companies closer to the initiative and exploring ways to collaborate for the sustainable development of Cabo Delgado. The meeting brought together private-sector representatives from a range of industries, with 16 companies expressing their interest in joining the PSPD.

The PSPD is a voluntary platform that brings together private-sector companies and foundations to promote dialogue, coordination, and joint action around common development priorities. Its founding members include the Mozambique LNG Foundation, the Vodacom Foundation, ExxonMobil Mozambique, Limitada, Syrah Resources, and the  Reset Foundation (founded by Ferreira dos Santos family) , with the support of ThirdWay Partners, which acts as the partnership’s Secretariat.

Created out of a consensus on the need for greater coordination among private actors investing in northern Mozambique, the PSPD seeks to align efforts, avoid duplication, and increase the collective impact of development work. Education was identified as the first shared priority area, given its central role in driving economic growth, social inclusion, and long-term employability.

During the session, the PSPD’s 2026 Action Plan was presented, foreseeing interventions in 32 schools across 11 districts of Cabo Delgado, focused on three priority areas: access to water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH); electrification through solar systems; and improved digital connectivity, including internet access and computer rooms. The plan is the result of joint work developed with the Cabo Delgado Provincial Directorate of Education and represents a first step in demonstrating the potential of coordination among private actors around shared objectives.

With its opening to new members, the PSPD begins a new phase, seeking to consolidate an ever-broader network of partners committed to the sustainable development of Cabo Delgado, working closely with public institutions, communities, and other stakeholders.
