Training of 200 Community Health Agents

The Foundation is supporting the accelerated implementation of the national community health strategy through the training of 200 community health agents in localities rated as highly vulnerable across 14 districts of Cabo Delgado. This contribution is critical to fill the existing deficit of more than 700 such agents in the province. Once deployed at the end of 2025, they will be the first point of access to essential health for some 400 000 people, with a particular focus on disease prevention and maternal and child health. These agents will also provide health and nutrition education to the populations.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO) the role of community health agents has proven to be critical in the significant reductions of both maternal and child mortality over the past two decades (76% and 58% respectively). As the community agents also have the responsibility of data gathering, the Foundation will be able to track progress over time in all localities.

Beyond contributing to the critical agenda of early childhood development, this program is also meant to provide greater training and employment opportunities for youth, with the agents to be trained being 27 years old on average, across an age range of 19 to 35.
