To keep children, especially girls, in safe, well-equipped learning environments, this initiative is building and upgrading schools in Cabo Delgado. A new school is being constructed in Mondlane, while the school in Maganja is being rehabilitated, expanded, and equipped as the first fully serviced basic school in the country, benefiting 2,530 students.
Reconstruction and Construction of Schools and Educational Infrastructure

Implemented in partnership with MEC (Ministry of Education) and DPE/CD, the project is aligned with ENDE’s Pilar II & III, the Education Strategic Plan (2020–2029), the Resilience and Integrated Development Program (PREDIN), and the Cabo Delgado Reconstruction Plan (PRCD). It improves infrastructure, enhances learning conditions, and boosts enrollment, retention, and academic performance – strengthening human capital in vulnerable communities.
Support in Construction and Equipping of Maringanha Secondary School – Pemba City
Reabilitação de Escolas Afectadas pelo Ciclone Chido
Após a devastação do ciclone Chido em Dezembro de 2024, que danificou ou destruiu 250 escolas, esta iniciativa de emergência concentrou-se na reabilitação de seis escolas gravemente afectadas nos distritos de Pemba e Mecúfi, restaurando ambientes de aprendizagem seguros para mais de 23.000 alunos.
Distrito de Mecúfi: Escola Básica de Mecúfi (3.129 alunos), Escola Primária de Ngoma (1.040 alunos), Escola Secundária de Mecúfi (1.860 alunos)
Distrito de Pemba: Escola Primária Carlos Luanga (2.532 alunos), Escola Básica de Muxara (5.632 alunos), Escola Primária e Secundária Samora Machel (8.971 alunos)
Em parceria com o Ministério da Educação e a a Direcção Provincial de Educação de Cabo Delgado, o projecto foi alinhado com o Pilar II e III do ENDE, o Plano Estratégico de Educação (2020-2029) e os esforços nacionais de apoio emergencial. Assegura a continuidade da educação, protege as crianças vulneráveis e reforça a resiliência das infraestruturas escolares em zonas propensas a catástrofes.
Cada uma destas escolas representa um espaço renovado de aprendizagem, segurança e dignidade para milhares de crianças e jovens.

Construction and Equipping of Libraries
To promote inclusive education and keep children—especially girls—in safe, well-equipped schools, this initiative is delivering 20 equipped libraries, including 7 in secondary schools, and constructing 6 new libraries from the ground up. These facilities span 11 districts: Pemba, Mecúfi, Metuge, Ancuabe, Chiure, Montepuez, Mueda, Macomia, Nangade, Mocímboa da Praia, and Palma, benefiting 76,519 children.
