Strengthening Agricultural Value Chains for Smallholder Farmers – Cabo Delgado

This project supports 5,000 smallholder farmers in Cabo Delgado to increase household incomes, strengthen food security, and improve access to stable markets. The intervention aims to promote climate-resilient and commercially viable agricultural value chains, in line with national rural development objectives.
The approach is integrated, combining access to inputs, technical assistance, producer organization and structured market linkage. The project promotes cash crops (cashew, sesame and honey) and nutritious and climate-resilient food crops (sorghum and horticulture), with a focus on the economic inclusion of 1,000 women.
The initiative includes the production of 150,000 high-yielding cashew seedlings, access to certified sesame seeds, expansion of beekeeping, training of 200 lead farmers, crop diversification and support for local processing. These actions increase production, reduce post-harvest losses and create new sources of income along the value chain.
With a local team of more than 85 employees and a direct reach of 5,000 farmers, the project diversifies the rural economy by introducing new crops, strengthening complementary activities such as beekeeping, stimulating local processing and integrating producers into formal markets, while strengthening technical capacities and generating employment at the provincial level.
