Integrated Renewable Energy Project – Cabo Delgado

This project expands access to modern and sustainable energy in Cabo Delgado, in alignment with the National Electrification Strategy and the national goal of universal energy access by 2030. The initiative plans to reach approximately 196,000 beneficiaries through the distribution of solar home systems. The project also includes the electrification of approximately 25% of health centers and 10% of schools in the province, ensuring the delivery of public services in rural and off-grid environments.

In addition, the project introduces energy solutions for productive activities in close cooperation and integration with existing programs and partners. The intervention includes solar irrigation systems, solar cold storage for agriculture and fisheries, and local training for the installation, operation, and maintenance of solar systems, promoting the productive use of energy as a catalyst for rural development. The implementation model follows approaches already adopted in national off-grid electrification programs led by FUNAE (National Energy Fund), ensuring coherence with MIREME’s (Ministry of Mineral Resources and Energy) sectoral priorities and the regulatory framework overseen by ARENE (Energy Regulatory Authority).

The process is supported by a local office in Cabo Delgado, a team of 15 technicians, and a network of 150 field agents, thus creating new skilled employment opportunities.
